The personal statement is your opportunity to share with us your unique life experiences, what is important to you and what makes you want to pursue a legal education. A carefully crafted, well-written and concise statement is what we are looking for as we seek to learn more about you and assess your writing ability. This essay should reflect solely your own work and not exceed 750 words.

Factors We Consider

Successful lawyers must display a range of skills and talents. That's why we take a holistic approach in our selection process.

In order to apply, you must:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
There is no ideal major or required major for law school. Today, law students are graduates from all fields of study, including business, education, engineering, humanities, natural sciences, nursing and social sciences. More important is pursuing a program that teaches one to think logically, read carefully and write well.

  • Take the LSAT
The LSAT is a demanding standardized test and we recommend that you prepare for it seriously and carefully. The LSAT is usually offered multiple times a year, please check the schedule directly with LSAT (link below). We accept LSAT scores earned within five years previous to the application date. Please note that if you take the test more than once, we use your higher LSAT score. Learn more about the LSAT

When we consider your application, we weigh the following:

  • Your undergraduate scholastic record*

  • Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) score(s)*

  • LSAT writing sample

  • any advanced degrees you may have earned

To get a complete picture, we also require that you submit the following for consideration:

  • A copy of your resume

  • At least two letters of recommendation

  • A personal statement

Other factors we consider:

  • Life and work experience

  • Extracurricular activities

  • Applicant’s ability to enhance the diversity of perspectives represented in our student body

Quinnipiac University School of Law supports equality of educational and employment opportunity. No person shall be denied admission to any educational program or activity or be denied employment on the basis of race, color, ability, religion, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or ethnic or national origin.

*These are the most important factors we consider in the application process.

Admissions Policy

At Quinnipiac University School of Law, our focus is on educating the whole lawyer. We empower you to retain your personal values and sense of self while teaching you to be skilled, knowledgeable, and ethical practitioners of the law. Quinnipiac Law has a responsibility to educate lawyers who will serve the legal needs of all members of society. With this responsibility in mind, we enroll students whose lived experience suggests that they have the capacity to make a substantial contribution to the learning environment of the law school and to distinguish themselves in serving the community through the practice of law, policy improvement, government service, legal scholarship, or other law-related activities. We aspire to educate lawyers who are interested in improving access to quality representation and justice.

While past academic performance and LSAT scores are important aspects of an application, we also consider additional factors including (but not limited to): letters of recommendation; the clarity and quality of writing (throughout the entire application); advanced degrees; employment history; commitment to community service; experience navigating social, educational, physical, or economic challenges; moral character; academic growth and improving grades; rigor of undergraduate curriculum; extracurricular activities; distinctions/honors achieved; and life experience.
