Full-Time JD Costs of Attendance and Budget 2026–27

¹ These costs reflect 2026-27 charges. The full-time tuition cost is based on 12–15 credits per semester. Students who enroll for more than 15 credits per semester will be charged the flat rate plus $2,040 for each credit over 15 credits. Tuition and fees are subject to change.

Tuition is based on the number of credits at $1,590 per credit hour. Housing is based on accommodations on the Trinity campus for 34 nights; the actual amount charged will be calculated on the exchange rate in effect in May. Students who elect to stay off-campus may pay more or less. Amounts listed for books, food and transportation expenses are estimated allowances that are not part of a student’s bill but are included for budgeting. Meals are based on an estimated daily rate of $70. Travel is based on estimated round-trip fares to Dublin from Connecticut or New York. Students should budget additional funds should they plan to travel throughout Ireland. Insurance is required for students studying abroad. Total amount of loan funds received may be less than the amount requested due to the deduction of loan fees, depending upon the loan type.

Determining Cost of Attendance

For full-time, part-time, and 3-year evening students

Cost of Attendance (COA) refers to all the expenses associated with attending law school, including items directly charged by the university (direct costs such as tuition and fees), as well as estimates for rent, food, transportation, books, supplies, miscellaneous items, and loan fees (indirect costs).

The Cost of Attendance represents expenses that will and can be incurred while attending law school. It also represents the maximum financial aid (federal and private educational loans, scholarship, and work-study) you may receive for an academic award period/year.

There are two types of costs in your budget:

Billed Charges (Direct Costs): Expenses for which you will be billed from the Quinnipiac University One Stop such as tuition and fees (student, university/technology, accident, and other applicable fees).

Possible Expenses (Indirect Costs): Expenses that you may incur but for which you do not receive a billing statement from the university. The amounts provided are the average allowance for each allowable category: books, supplies, transportation, miscellaneous expense and off-campus living expenses.

These estimates are for educational expenses and are, therefore, used when calculating financial aid eligibility. It is important to note that you will only be billed for the direct costs.

We recommend that you keep the cost of attendance budget in mind when you construct your own budget for living expenses. This will allow you to get a better idea of the amount you may need to borrow in student loans, and what resources are available to help with your expenses while in school. Keep in mind that budgets only cover the time you are in school. Generally this is 9 months for full-time students and 9-months + 9 weeks for 3-Yr Evening students.

The Office of Financial Aid follows federal guidelines when constructing the COA. Consideration for budget increases for childcare costs, health care issues and additional credits must be requested in writing and should include appropriate documentation. Financial aid budgets do not provide for family costs and are based on student expenses only.

Listed below is additional information concerning the Cost of Attendance components.

To use educational loan funding to help offset the expense of a computer purchase, you may receive a one-time increase to your COA during your law school academic career to cover the cost of purchasing a computer. The maximum allowance is $2,500. In order to be considered a valid "education-related" expense, the purchase of a computer must occur within the academic year (August-May) and you must present the receipt documenting the cost. For first-year students, we will honor purchases made up to four weeks before the start of classes.

These expenses are calculated based on data from the Consumer Expenditure Survey for the Northeast and reflect increases in the Consumer Price Index as calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The living allowance assumes you have at least one roommate to curtail expenses. Increases cannot be made for students choosing to live alone. The transportation allowance does not account for car payments/lease expenses or for relocating to Connecticut. These are the personal responsibility of the student.

The loan fees included are based on the 1.057% origination fee charged on the average law school total borrowed through the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans last year. Graduate Plus loan fees are added based on individual borrowing.
