Study Law in Ireland

Summer Program at Trinity College

Quinnipiac University School of Law offers an ABA-approved summer program at Trinity College Dublin, one of Ireland’s premier institutions of higher education. This program provides an introduction to the Irish legal system and Irish constitutional law as well as a variety of classes in Irish, comparative and international law.

Located in the heart of Dublin, Trinity is the constituent college of the University of Dublin, one of Europe’s oldest universities, steeped in history and tradition. Trinity College Law Library, which has holdings in Irish, British and European law, has recently expanded its holding to include North American law. The college’s historic Old Library contains not only the Book of Kells, a world-famous volume of ninth-century illuminated manuscripts of the gospels, but an unparalleled collection of books, art and artifacts relating to Irish history.

Legal education on the global stage

In the 21st century, there are global implications to almost every area and specialty of law. To be effective, lawyers must develop empathy and cultural competence, while understanding diverse international perspectives.

Thanks to a unique array of programs, organizations and travel opportunities, the Quinnipiac School of Law has made global learning a key part of our students’ legal education.

Global Learning Program in Guatemala

The International Human Rights Law Society organizes an immersive service trip and legal conference where students engage with community leaders, NGOs, law schools and local attorneys. Students have the opportunity to stay with host families and exchange legal ideas with students and faculty from local law schools.

Study Abroad

Students may also participate in study abroad programs offered at and by other schools, as long as the programs are ABA-approved and the student receives clearance from our academic dean. In the past, our students have studied throughout Asia, Europe and Africa.

Student groups, events and conferences

In partnership with the Civil Justice Clinic, the Human Trafficking Prevention Project is a student-run organization that strives to raise awareness about human trafficking. By hosting training sessions and on-campus events, the Human Trafficking Prevention Project teaches diverse audiences to identify and respond to situations of human trafficking and ultimately make a difference in the lives of victims and survivors of trafficking.

World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates

Law students at the 19th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates

Law students Rebecca Ouellette and Elia Sanchez

The annual summit brings Nobel Peace Laureates together to engage in dialogue, discussion and debate about current issues and challenges, promote significant international political and social campaigns, issue statements, conceive and create new initiatives and hopefully send messages of inspiration and wisdom to the entire world.

Since its inception in 1999, the Summit has convened in Rome, Hiroshima, Warsaw, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Bogotá, and Monterrey.

By participating in this event, students are provided the opportunity to expand on both their academic and personal development by gaining groundbreaking knowledge, connecting with world leaders and advocating for their own ideas and opinions.

The summit also provides networking opportunities for students to connect with world leaders and discover how their discipline can be relevant to a larger movement of promoting peace.

International Human Rights Law & Transitional Justice

This year-long, for-credit course explores the tension between justice and peace and, in the transitional justice context, the tension between justice and mercy. Topics may include:

  • the concept of human rights

  • guaranteeing human rights by treaty

  • human rights and foreign policy

  • transitional justice

  • truth and reconciliation processes

  • women, peace and security

Students who are able to attend will cap off their course experience by presenting at the annual Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. This course prepares our students for their presentation by providing an education in the legal texts and historical readings relevant to each year's Summit.

Students earn 2-3 credits for completing the course: 1 each in the fall and spring semesters, plus 1 for attending the Summit, earned in the semester in which the Summit occurs.
